I think it makes a difference where you live depending on the humidity. I recently moved from northern WV to southeast GA and the difference in humidity is unbelievable. When I ride to work in the morning I have no backfire at all but in the afternoon ont he way home the humidity is alo higher and it backfires every time I decel or shift. I dont't think it's anything you will ever get rid of. I haven't found it to be that bad and I run a Jardine on my '87 also.
If you do find a way to rid the savage of this problem let us know there are a lot of us tryin to figure that out.
